Got HL2 on day of release and it blew me away. Alway been a HL fan - had the original and all the expansions. Finished HL2 quite quickly though and played Episode 1 and got a bit fed up.

Went back recently and it is amazing how far graphics have come since then but while I think it has dated graphically it is still a great game. Very Happy Very Happy

I've been through HL2, HL2 episode 1, and am into episode 2 now Smile

Personally although the graphics are a bit old school, I love the art stlye which is pretty realistic in my opinion, contrasting with something like bioshock which I find slightly too 'cartoony' in nature.

As per my post I've been playing this with the Rebel FM gameclub and they said apparently that on xbox (360 I presume), they updated the charater models in HL2 & ep 1, with the updated models from ep2, but haven't done this on PC!! I think you also get achievements in the first two games on xbox (but not on PC) affraid

I completed HL2 (from the orange box) but lent the game out and it came back damaged. Is it worth picking up another copy just to play the other episodes?

I would say so mate.

Call me a fanboy but I think it's worth playing through the games in this order to fully appreciate the storyline:

half life 1,
half life 2,
half life 2 episode 1,
Portal,
Half life 2 episode 2

I would say that that the storyline is somewhat akin to the Matrix in that's there are typically more questions raised than there are answers provided Very Happy

I've also played portal i forgot to mention that. I'll definately keep an eye out for a cheap copy then.
